Situation

A manufacturing company faced growing demands for faster processing of business opportunities, accurate costing, efficient production planning and on-time delivery. Order management ran across several disconnected systems, combining an ERP, spreadsheets and paper documentation. The result was a high administrative burden, limited process transparency and more difficult management decision-making.

Risk

The insufficiently standardised process slowed down enquiry processing, reduced costing accuracy, complicated capacity planning and increased the risk of missing agreed deadlines. There was also no systematic analysis of actual production times, process deviations or a clear definition of departmental responsibilities.

Our role

Business Process Transformation focused on the comprehensive analysis, standardisation and optimisation of commercial, engineering and production processes across the whole order life cycle, from receiving a customer enquiry to its economic evaluation.

  • Measures to increase transparency of production management and improve capacity planning

  • Proposals for further process digitalisation, automation of administrative tasks and the development of data-driven management
Result
  • The project gave management a comprehensive view of the real course of the order process and identified the main causes of operational losses, longer lead times and reduced cross-department efficiency.
  • A transparent process model for order management was created, along with a proposal to standardise key activities and refine the inputs for costing, production planning and capacity management.
  • The groundwork was laid for further process digitalisation, ERP development and the use of modern AI tools in production management and strategic decision-making.
